The Novelties Sub-Committee will advise annually the events to be contested at the Championships. All events are for Zone Teams of three riders in the following age groups:

12 Years and Under
13-16 Years
17 Years and Over

Zones must conduct a Selection Day where members compete as individuals, with the fastest riders on the day being selected for Zone Teams.

Listed below are the events to be conducted at the 2008 State Championships.

• Traditional Barrel Race
• Western Bending Race
• 3 Mug Race (as per novelty rules)
• Diamond Flag Race
• Bend Bar Aft Race
• Pony Club Mount

Virbac Novelties Trophy

The VIRBAC Australia Pty Limited Trophy will be awarded to the Zone Team in each age group scoring the highest number of points over all events. Placings are allocated from 1st to last in each event and age group and points awarded with the first place team receiving one more point than the number of teams entered. The points awarded to each team from each event are added together to give the team total.

Scoring

If 15 teams are entered, the first placed team in the Ben Bar Aft would be awarded 16 points, the 2nd placed team 15 points, the third placed team 14 points, etc. Where two teams receive an equal placing (eg 2nd, the points awarded to 2nd (15) and 3rd place (14) are added together (29) and divided by 2 to give a score for each rider of 14.5.
